J.K. Rowling's Brilliant Biography

Joanne Kathleen Rowling was born on 31 July 1965 to Peter and Anne Rowling in Chepstow, Gwent, England. She and her younger sister Di had vivid imaginations, and played that they were witches, perhaps leading to other such stories later in life. After studying French and the classics at Exeter University, Rowling spent time in Paris as a teaching aide, and later went on to teach French. After a failed marriage. but with a welcome daughter, Jessica, Rowling went into a state of relative depression and poverty. She began developing her Harry Potter characters and stories on spare bits of paper, napkins, notepads and even airplane airsickness bags. Rowling finally found success with the help of her agent and found the British publisher Bloomsbury to print the first Harry Potter book. Scholastic was later enlisted to print the American versions of the series.

From her first story in 1971 about a rabbit with a case of the measles to 2003's release of Harry Potter and the Order of the Phoenix, Rowling has certainly made a name for herself in the childrens' literature world. Her marriage to Dr. Neil Murray on 26 December 2001 has led her to a second pregnancy, and a delayed (but imminent) publishing of her further Harry Potter books. Besides these books, Rowling has written Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them and Quidditch Through the Ages for Comic Relief, a British charity group. Now a multi-millionaire and one of the richest people in the world, Rowling awaits the arrival of her baby in their home in Edinburgh, Scotland.
